Course Topics:

  • Surgical Exodontia including Third Molars

    Implant placement starts with ability to perform exodontia and to do it well. Dr. Damon will cover an in depth medical review of common medical conditions the practitioner will encounter, identify patients to avoid, and cover local anesthetic techniques that will allow you to be more proficient. We will cover what you did not get in dental school!! In addition, we will go in depth to flap design, elevation, tissue management, and how to perform surgical extractions. We will include an introduction to third molar removal.

  • Suturing and Socket Preservation

    Tooth extraction, especially surgical tooth extraction requires soft tissue closure with suturing. Dr. Damon will guide you on a simple suturing protocol for different clinical scenarios. Suture methods taught will be running continuous and locking sutures, vertical and horizontal mattress sutures, and interrupted sutures. We will cover these topics in depth in lecture, hands on, and with cadavers. Socket Preservation methods are also taught as this is allows for an implant to be placed in the area 4 months later.

  • Full Arch Extractions and Implant Over-Dentures

    We will also teach you how to extract an entire arch of teeth to get patients ready for immediate dentures and or implant dentures. Full arch extraction therapy requires Pre-Prosthetic surgery considerations, alveoplasty techniques, flap management, and tissue protection. Dr. Damon will give you the pearls and knowledge gained by performing over 3,000 denture surgeries in his career. Attendees will also get to place implants on models and cadavers for a 2 or 4 implant over-denture. This can be your first step towards Immediate placement in your office.

Extract a lot of teeth on cadavers, become familiar and confident with flap elevation and alveoplasty on cadavers.

FAQ’s

Is this a beginner course?

Let’s face it, dental school only teaches to a certain level. That is where the beginners are. If you are interested in this course, you are NOT a beginner. Often we hear advanced practitioners complain of weekend CE and voice that a specialty program is needed. While there can be validity to that statement in some circumstances, this course serves as the starting point for a practitioner serious in implant dentistry. Our aim, is for attendees to take multiple courses with us, so that their education is not “a weekend course” but a culmination of multiple lectures, in depth learning, hands-on, multiple cadaver surgical experience, observation in the clinical setting, and mentorship available. This course serves as the foundation for practitioners wanting to make the jump from traditional restorative dentistry to increasing exposure to surgical and implant dentistry. Our aim is to efficiently re-inform you of important Medical concepts that the implant dentist encounters during surgery. We also want to inform you of the standard of care and give pearls of how to avoid complications.

How many implants will I place?

While not the main goal of the course, as we want to focus on developing surgical skills that will assist you for the rest of your career; attendees will get to place 4-5 implants on a bone-like model. In addition, you will place 2 - 3 implants on cadavers. Our other courses are geared toward more implants being placed, but a beginner does not jump into the full arch implant game. Starting with a continuum of education will keep you out of problems and enjoying implant dentistry over the long term.

How many teeth will I extract?

On the cadaver day, you will be paired with another attendee to split the work on our cadavers. We will perform 2 surgical extractions for socket preservation, if third molars are present you will be able to learn third molar removal skills as well. In addition, you will remove an entire mouth of teeth (maxilla and mandible), performing and being critiqued on pre-prosthetic surgical abilities. You will get expert instruction on improving your surgical skills as identified and needed by Dr. Damon. I would expect you will walk away with removing quite a few teeth, but the teeth is just the beginning. What our attendees get most out of our program is flap management, ability to perform an excellent alveoplasty, and exposure to suturing an entire arch closed.

What should I be able to do after the course?

This course should impact your practices bottom line! Our students are prepared to take on more once they get home. After a SurgicalONE course you should be able to feel confident adding more extractions to your schedule you might have referred out. In addition to just pulling a few more teeth, you should feel confident in adding in more surgical tooth removal, socket preservation for a future implant placed by you, and adding in some immediate dentures!

Dallas Love Field is the closest airport only being 10 minutes away it is the main hub for Southwest Airlines. If you are traveling where American Airlines has more connection availability then DFW (Dallas - Fort Worth) Airport would be your bet, but it is 30 minutes drive away.
